LIFE'S LITTLE LUXURIES
CADBURY PEPPERMINT CHOCOLATE

Peppermint liquid, white and viscous
Encased in chocolate dark
Regular mounds, soft squared delight
Enscribed with the maker's mark
Encapsulated and separated
By a grid of chocolate stark
Irresistably temptingly tasty too
I'll soon be the shape of an ark

BAR ALL CHOCOLATE
There's a comfort to which I turn
But only in great need
It's wrapped in foil and paper too
And tempts me to great greed
There is a challenge I sense issued
As I bite the chocolate bar
To eat a part and store the rest
And admire it from afar

There is a fatal flaw in me
I ignore the chocolate dare
That's why it is I only buy
Small bars: King size I fear!

      COOL CLEAR WATER

       Water water that's the best...
Drink of all and I don't jest
;   Slurp it from the running streams
It's the stuff of giardia dreams
       Taste rainwater from a tank
(Just check for floaties that are rank)
Guzzle it straight, from the tap
       Chemical cocktail, energy sap
Pump it from a deep dark well
On the colour just don't dwell...
       Water water clear and cool
       Without a filter you're a fool

BATHTIME

The bath is a most delightful place
to wallow
The warmth relaxes body, then face
will follow
I happily lie for hours there-in
the hollow
Luxury: water up to my chin
-don't swallow-

A SONNET TO BATHING

Ah! Welcome warmth, a lovely luxury
The surface shimmers, shine reflecting all
Until toes merge with their own imagery
       And ripples radiate around footfall
Then slowly, sensual descent of limbs
The tender touch invites immersion bliss
And water rises, reaching bathtub rims
Warmth laps, a comforting, caressing kiss
Dissolving worry, all that weighs me down
And melting tension, heat massaging skin
To soak and sense abatement of a frown
To smile as satisfaction wells within
Ah! Welcome warmth, a secret joy sublime
These peaceful moments stolen out of time

CHEESE SAUCE

A nice cheese sauce is what you need
When you feel all full of greed
It covers any tastelessness
And turns mistakes to meals of bliss

SHE'LL RUE THAT WHITE SAUCE

A Lady of old, when served some meat
Smothered in pallid gravy
Launched a probing investigation
Declaring "It's not savory!"
"This gives me goosebumps" shivered she
"'Tis but a 'paltry' dish
If I eat off-white drumsticks
I'd prefer a legg-ed fish!"

Whereon her guesting gentleman
Took a closer look
Mislead by lumps of white roux sauce
Proclaimed "Just see that chook!"
His eyes were staring but not at
Poultry or salamander
Which shows what's sauce for the goose
Can be source for a gander!

SHEDDING THOSE INHIBITIONS

The heat has me beat
I have to retreat
Into a pool or shower
My clothes I'll shed
And though I turn red
I'll be nice and cool and how-a!

NEVER SATISFIED
Summer is a time when friends
From far across the sea
Seem to moan and melt and groan
On ICQ to me!

While I have fingers dropping off
From awful circulation
And frigid air surrounding me
In this southern winter nation

IN RAYS OF SUMMER

Celestial blue so light, with dawbs of fluffy white
A southern summer sky is such delight
Warmth soaking in each pore of skin
Praise for summer, where to begin?
(But I need a pair of shades for glare
And sunscreen for each bit that's bare!)

SUMMER FRUIT

There's nothing quite like a Black Doris plum
It's big and juicy and dark crimson
It fits inside a curving hand
It drips so much, to eat you stand
You need to lean, a forward slant
(Unless you want to stain your pant)
    Whatever eating style you choose
It's got to beat those winter stews

SHOES

Don't the good ones cost a mint?
If I could afford to, I wouldn't stint
I'd wear the best that money could buy
Stylish leather (but not too high)
The higher the heel, the worse feet feel
And at day's end, preparing a meal
Despite slippers to slip into at home
Aching feet have a mind of their own
So I'd keep to a medium heel, or flat
But it must be expensive, don't forget that!

SUITS ME

An Italian suit
Is just the thing
To get the girl
Without a ring!

ONCE IN A LIFETIME

From the sand, eyes searched the sea
Watched and waited patiently
Many souls all hushed, elated
Craved the light, anticipated
Clouds were pinkly tinged with rays
Dark sea glittered through a haze
People stared as sunlight grew
Knowing that the dawn was due
A sunrise viewed across the sea:
Worth waiting for a century

NATURE STUDY

Whatever the tree, it makes the grade
If placed providing summer shade
 A leafy retreat
Escape the heat
An air-conditioner, nature-made

ADDICTION

Oh cup of tea
Tannin for me
I cannot do without it
Relax, unwind
Un-intertwined
I cannot help but tout it
That warming sip
Passing my lip
I cannot pout about it
It's bad for me?
My cup of tea?
I cannot help but doubt it!

BOARDING SCHOOL-PASS

Ah! Riding the waves, them luvly white horses
What gallops up sand dunes with tidal forces
Don't need me a surfboard,sea-stallion,nor mare-a
Me, I'm Aquarian, the water's my bearer

Body surfing's the best, white waves washing me
They dump then I dive, horror-zonta-lee
Easier than swimming, no need for no lessons
Just take a deep breath and make last confessions

Boards might be better, far from the shore
But sharks looking up,'turtle' shapes can't ignore
So paddling a surfboard's MORE risk to me corpus
-Excepting in school, then I falls off on porpoise

SOME  TAN

We ran out of water the other day
No town supply out here
If, perchance, it doesn't rain
An empty tank I fear
See, most of the water, rain supplied
Is used in baths so deep
Where-in I lie in luxury
- Like tea, I need to steep
Thus, when our water failed to run
I called for action stations
We switched the pipe into the well
Pumped up a taste sensation
The well has water, mineral-rich
'Though filtered just to drink
'Tis a flavour unsurpassed
- It makes my tastebuds shrink
And as my bath with water filled
I saw to my distress
Water, black and full of gunge
- I used it none-the-less
The hue was like a good strong brew
When I got in to soak
I gained a coat of 'Instant Tan'
My tannin bath, I joke

A SAUCY CHOICE

What do you do for a finishing touch
When cooking up a storm?
Why, you should add hot mustard then
- For ham that is the norm

But if the food you have is sweet
Dessert you do adorn
If you still choose to use mustard
The eaters you should warn!

UBIQUITOUS

Chrome legs, booted in plastic
Cloned chairs, four, fantastic!
Stacking guile, one and all
Lacking style but functional!

ROCK'N RECLINE

Big and soft, sink-in-able
That's my lazyboy
Plush-covered, oh so comfortable
Rock, unwind-me, joy!

BRAND SPANKING NEW

Oh brand new chair
There's none so fair
None other even can compare

Brand new, pristine
Untouched, so clean
Will a stain soon cause a scene?

SWING 'ER UNDER THE EAVES

Did you ever want a swinging seat
With room enough for two?
With padding under and behind
Discreet shade cover too?

Fringes dangling from the top
Ruffled by the breeze
Squeaking protests as you glide
Your hand towards her knees

ESCAPE ISN'T EASY

I wonder if a hammock qualifies?
-as a chair. Can there be doubt?
Naught about a hammock mollifies
-me, attempting to get out!

COLLAPSIBLE

The deck chair is a great invention
To sit in one was my intention
Just as I sat
It folded flat
Nothing to do for prevention!

CLOTHES

We wear them here
We wear them there
We look at others and compare
What would they say if we went bare?
Would they comment or only stare?
I'll never know,  I wouldn't dare!
